The Foundations of Herbology course provides a practical introduction to the traditional use of herbs for individuals and families who want to become more knowledgeable and confident in caring for their health naturally.
A central focus of this course is herbal simpling—the traditional practice of becoming thoroughly familiar with a smaller number of individual herbs and learning the many ways each herb can be used. Rather than beginning with complicated formulas containing numerous ingredients, students learn to understand individual herbs, their properties, traditional uses, and methods of preparation.
Throughout the course, students will explore common herbs and learn practical ways to prepare and use them. Course materials include naturopathic reference manuals that introduce traditional preparations such as herbal teas, powders, and tinctures, along with information about how herbs have traditionally been selected and used to support health and wellness.
The goal is not simply to memorize a long list of herbs. Students begin developing a working knowledge of herbalism—learning to recognize useful herbs, understand their traditional applications, and become comfortable with basic herbal preparations.
